The Animals
At The Devon Croft we produce lamb, pork and chicken. We pride ourselves on giving our animals the best life possible.
Whilst we raise our young family we have taken the decision to buy in store lambs to fatten up rather than keep a breeding flock, however we look forward to creating a breeding flock in a few years time. This will probably be made up of Zwartbles as we love them and they produce excellent meat.
We have 1-2 batches of pigs in every year. They reside in a huge woodland pen which they love to root around in and stay out of the sun in the hot summer months. We choose native British breeds some of which have been; Saddleback's, Large Black's, Tamworth's and Gloucestershire Old Spot's. Our favourite being Saddleback's.
We collect our chickens at 1 day old from a local organic farm. They are kept inside under a heat lamp for 5 weeks before going out into the orchard pen for another 5-7 weeks.
